WellingtonNZ and partner regions have received a significant boost to promote the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail, with nearly $1 million in funding set to elevate the trail’s profile among international visitors.
Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston says the investment will help Wellington, Wairarapa, Hawke’s Bay and Marlborough reach new audiences with a campaign targeting Australian travellers.
“The Classic NZ Wine Trail connects some of our most celebrated wine regions,” Upston says. “This funding will encourage visitors to slow down, explore beyond the usual hotspots, and discover the exceptional wine, food and stargazing experiences these regions offer. Wairarapa’s recent inclusion in Lonely Planet’s ‘Best in Travel’ list shows global interest is already building.”
The $991,000 campaign, led by WellingtonNZ and regional partners, forms part of Round 2 of the Regional Tourism Boost — a component of the Government’s $70 million Major Events and Tourism Package. It follows similar funding earlier this year, now expanded to include hospitality offerings.
“By backing this campaign, we’re not just promoting great wine,” Upston says. “We’re inviting visitors to experience the heart and soul of our regions.”
