Nelson Airport will roll out major upgrades to its parking system from December 1, 2025, including online booking, digital payment options and ticketless entry.
Nelson Airport chief executive Brendan Cook says the investment will make parking easier and more convenient, with discounts of up to 30 per cent for customers who book in advance.
“We’re investing in new technology including upgraded licence plate recognition cameras, new pay machines, and online booking and payment platforms for customers. We’re also going ticketless which will make entry and exit easier, as well as being kinder to the environment,” Brendan says.
The online booking platform will go live ahead of December for travellers planning Christmas and summer travel.
As part of the upgrade, the Long Stay Carpark will move to a daily-only charging model. A discounted rate of $7 per day applies from day five onwards.
“To get the best available rates, people should use the Main Carpark for stays of less than five days, and the Long Stay Carpark if parking for five days plus,” Brendan says.
The first 15 minutes of parking remain free. Standard drive-up rates will increase by 50 cents an hour and $2 a day to help fund the system upgrades.
“We’re very aware of the price pressures the community is under and encourage people to take advantage of cheaper prices by booking and paying in advance. The further ahead you book, the better the discount,” Brendan says.
He also highlighted public transport and rideshare options, including the eBus and services such as Uber.
