Booking.com has partnered with Kiwi chef Kia Kanuta to offer a once-in-a-lifetime bookable holiday home experience celebrating Aotearoa’s delicacy, kina (sea urchin).
Located on Northland’s Tutukākā Coast, the Booking.com Kina Cottage will give one pair of Genius members an unforgettable stay that celebrates New Zealand’s coastal cuisine while supporting marine conservation.
Guests will head out with Dive Now to sustainably hand-harvest kina, then enjoy a private ocean-to-table dining experience prepared by Chef Kanuta, who will share the stories and flavours behind this delicacy.
The clifftop cottage features vineyards, olive trees, sweeping ocean views, a dining deck, and a natural mermaid pool home to a resident octopus.
The launch comes as travellers increasingly seek sustainable and food-focused experiences. Booking.com’s 2025 Travel and Sustainability Report found that 67 per cent of Kiwis want to leave destinations better than they found them, while 70 per cent choose destinations for cuisine and 54 per cent look for farm or ocean-to-table options.
Chef Kia Kanuta says:
“Some of my fondest memories are of school holidays spent gathering kina with my whānau, enjoying them fresh from the ocean. Those experiences shaped my love for ingredients that connect cuisine and culture.
“Teaming up with Booking.com on the Kina Cottage experience is meaningful to me because it brings together kaimoana (seafood), tradition, and the chance to share New Zealand’s coastal flavours with the world.”
The Kina Cottage will open for booking on Thursday, 23 October, at 12pm NZDT, for a three-night stay between November 20–23. One Genius member and a guest will enjoy:
