House of Travel is celebrating being named a finalist for the second consecutive year in the Best Places to Work Awards, reaffirming its reputation as the ultimate destination for a great workplace after winning the ‘Large Business’ category in 2024.
HoT is also a finalist in the Human-Centred Impact Spotlight category. The awards aim to inspire and acknowledge ‘The world’s best places to work’.
“Last year, we were both proud and humbled to be recognised as the winner in the large business category,” says House of Travel people and culture Lead Gaynor Morrah.
“But we’re not a company that rests on past successes. Over the past 12 months, we’ve worked even harder by committing ourselves to continuous growth, putting our people first and creating the best possible workplace because when people and culture lead, everything else follows.”
The nomination process for Best Places to Work began with a comprehensive annual employee engagement survey. The survey results and detailed submission process were then independently reviewed to determine category finalists.
This year’s survey results with an 85 per cent participation rate showed that 95 per cent of respondents agreed or strongly agreed they have confidence in HoT’s leadership. When it comes to support from immediate managers, 95 per cent said they feel supported. Ninety-five percent reported feeling a sense of connection among teammates.
Clear communication, collaboration, the flexible working environment and being able to bring ‘my authentic self to my workplace’ also gained high ratings. With the most popular words used by employees to describe HoT including, “fun”, “supportive”, “exciting”, “great”, “flexible”, “team good”, “rewarding” and “passionate”.
“At HoT, we know people make a workplace exceptional,” says House of Travel chief executive David Coombes.
“It’s about how you feel when you walk through the door, how supported you are when things get tough and how proud you are to be part of something bigger than yourself, knowing that it couldn’t happen without you.
“Culture isn’t posters on walls. It’s what happens daily at HoT, when we roll up our sleeves and show up for each other – at store level and HQ – contributing thoughts in a safe space and sharing a vision. Being named a finalist again is a proud reflection of the dedication and teamwork that define who we are.”
The 2025 Best Places to Work Awards ceremony will be held on October 22 at the Cordis Hotel in Auckland.
