Rydges Latimer Christchurch has achieved Sustainable Tourism Certification, the first Aotearoa New Zealand hotel to receive this globally recognised accolade.
The property achieved certification through several sustainability initiatives, including:
Working with suppliers to source responsibly
Actively embedding sustainability into the design
Operation of the property that includes minimising waste and prioritising recycling
Empowering staff and guests alike to play an active role in the journey.
The Sustainable Tourism Certification by Ecotourism Australia, a world-leading sustainable certification program, certifies businesses through independent audits to assess tourism operators. The program certifies that businesses are minimising negative impacts and maximising benefits for the environment, communities and culture.
“We are committed to our sustainability journey that entails choosing better for our customers, community and planet,” says EVT Hotels New Zealand and Pacific country manager Simon White.
“This certification recognises that dedication. Through strong relationships with suppliers, and working closely with our community through considered partnerships, the wider hotel team has certainly done the mahi to ensure Rydges Latimer Christchurch is on the right path. We look forward to continuing to build on this foundation.”
Sustainability is a focus for the wider EVT group across New Zealand, Australia and Singapore, committing to choosing better for their customers, community and planet. QT Gold Coast has also received its Sustainable Tourism Certification.
