Business Events Industry Aotearoa is kicking off its 11th BE Mentored Programme on Wednesday, March 19, with an in-person launch for mentees in Auckland at the All Blacks Experience, SkyCity Precinct.
“Thanks to our sponsor New Zealand International Convention Centre, 17 mentees will be joining us from around the country this year,” BEIA chief executive Lisa Hopkins says.
Mentees come from a broad range of event management, tourism and hospitality backgrounds and are looking to develop their careers, build valuable relationships and broaden their experience within the business events industry. Mentors, who all volunteer their time, are experienced practitioners within their fields and hold senior management positions.
“We can’t thank our mentors enough for the time and energy they give to the BE Mentored Programme, giving back to the industry and supporting our emerging leaders.”
Sally Doherty of Sallyd & Co is again facilitating the Programme launch, which will be run as a workshop to help mentees prepare for their mentoring journey ahead, with what to expect and how to make the most of their time in the programme. A similar workshop will be held for mentors online.
“The response from both mentors and mentees who took part in previous programmes has been outstanding. We give mentees a personal support system, to help both professionally and personally, while mentors have the chance to nurture early-career professionals and share the wisdom of their experience,” Lisa says.
The programme will run through until BEIA’s Annual Conference and AGM, being held in Auckland in November, when mentees and mentors will be recognised. Mentoring pairs will meet monthly between March and November.
“We are excited to follow the journey of our mentoring pairs and will be checking in during the course of the programme to see how they are progressing and provide any support required,” Lisa says.
