Millennium Hotels & Resorts is reinforcing its commitment to Northland and the Bay of Islands, aiming to drive increased visitation, corporate conferences, and events during the winter season. At the heart of this initiative is Copthorne Hotel and Resort Bay of Islands, strategically positioned to reignite interest in the region by attracting both corporate and leisure travellers to the “winterless north”.
Millennium has launched targeted marketing campaigns showcasing Northland’s breathtaking landscapes, rich history, and diverse activities to audiences across New Zealand and key international markets, including Australia. To entice event organisers, Copthorne Hotel and Resort Bay of Islands is offering exclusive corporate and conference packages for events held between May 1 and September 30. These packages include premium accommodation, meeting space offers, and tailored itineraries featuring cultural experiences, adventure tourism, and gourmet dining.
“Northland is one of New Zealand’s most visually stunning and culturally rich regions, but it has also been one of the hardest hit in recent years,” says Millennium Hotels NZ vice president of sales and partnerships Melanie Beattie.
“We believe the best way to support the region’s growth is by increasing visitation—filling hotel rooms, and fostering collaboration with local businesses, and creating sustainable economic opportunities. Our goal is to position the Bay of Islands not just as a top-tier holiday destination but also as a premier location for business events, conferences, and retreats.”
Northland’s tourism economy has faced significant challenges in recent years with extreme weather events and road closures limited access. However, green shoots of recovery are emerging as the region enters a new phase of growth across tourism, primary industries, and associated manufacturing sectors.
Enhanced airline access through Barrier Air, the success of Savour Northland events, and the announcement of The Tourism Export Council of New Zealand’s annual conference (set to welcome 300 international tourism delegates to Copthorne Bay of Islands in August) are all promising indicators of renewed momentum.
Recognising that regional revitalisation requires a collective effort, Millennium Hotels is actively partnering with local tour operators, Māori cultural groups, hospitality providers, and transport services to curate all-inclusive experiences that benefit the wider community. The group is aligning its efforts with local tourism boards, council representatives, and business groups to develop a unified strategy for promoting Northland and the Bay of Islands as must-visit destinations.
“We know that a thriving tourism industry benefits everyone, from small business owners to local employees and communities,” says Melanie. “By working together to put Northland and the Bay of Islands firmly on the map for business and leisure travellers, we can help create long-term economic stability for the region.”
