The Government has launched a new campaign aimed at attracting Australian workers to New Zealand, as part of efforts to address labour shortages across key sectors including tourism and hospitality.
Minister for Tourism and Hospitality Louise Upston says the campaign is designed to position New Zealand as an attractive place to live and work.
“We know there is strong interest from Australians in living and working in New Zealand, and this campaign is about converting that interest into action,” Upston says.
The initiative will target skilled workers across a range of industries, with a focus on sectors experiencing ongoing workforce pressures.
Tourism and hospitality businesses have continued to report staffing shortages as international visitor numbers recover, with workforce availability remaining a key constraint on growth.
Upston says attracting overseas workers will help support both the wider economy and visitor-facing sectors.
“Ensuring we have the workforce to support our growing visitor economy is critical to delivering high-quality experiences and sustaining regional tourism growth,” she says.
Supporting sector recovery
The campaign forms part of broader efforts to rebuild workforce capacity following the disruption caused by the pandemic, with businesses increasingly competing for skilled staff.
Industry groups have consistently highlighted workforce shortages as one of the biggest challenges facing the tourism sector, particularly in regional areas.
The Government says the campaign will focus on promoting lifestyle benefits alongside employment opportunities, targeting workers who may be considering relocating from Australia.
