Bar Albert has launched a bespoke London Dry style gin in partnership with Waiheke Distilling Co., available exclusively at the rooftop venue.
The collaboration brings together the Level 38 bar at voco Auckland City Centre and the Waiheke Island distillery, with co-owner and chief distiller Glen Cadwallader developing the new spirit.
Bar Albert Gin is bottled at 38 per cent ABV and features eight botanicals. The gin presents pronounced citrus notes with subtle hints of liquorice on the nose, followed by a rich texture and bright citrus flavours on the palate, finishing clean and crisp.
Waiheke Distilling Co. sales and marketing director Tanya Walshe says the partnership reflects a shared connection to place.
“This collaboration embodies everything Bar Albert represents – high-spirited glamour with a distinctly local connection. Our tagline for the gin ‘from ridgeline to rooftop’ perfectly captures this partnership. It’s a celebration of Auckland’s landscape and the craftsmanship happening on our doorstep,” says Tanya.
Waiheke Distilling Co. managing director Liz Scott says the distillery’s ‘garden to glass’ philosophy aligned with the rooftop bar’s approach.
“As a boutique, family-owned distillery with a focus on sustainability and craftsmanship it has been a delight to work with the Bar Albert team who share an appreciation of the ‘garden to glass’ philosophy behind our artisan Island Spirit range. Curating a bespoke gin that encapsulates our shared hospitality values and views felt like an ideal collaboration. We are delighted with the result,” says Liz.
Bar Albert food and beverage manager Razman Ramzan says the partnership was a natural fit.
“Partnering with Waiheke Distilling Co. was a natural fit with our bar’s view of Waiheke Island. Glen’s expertise in distilling has resulted in a gin that is sophisticated yet approachable and we see the Bar Albert gin as a bridge connecting our two hospitality venues across the water. We look forward to guests tasting Bar Albert Gin while looking toward the island where it was made,” says Razman.
