Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum has announced a programme of international touring exhibitions for 2026 and 2027, including an exclusive Triceratops exhibition and the return of Wildlife Photographer of the Year.
Auckland Museum director of audience engagement Victoria Travers says the programme reflects the museum’s commitment to presenting international exhibitions in Tāmaki Makaurau.
“The next two years of our international exhibition programme reflects Auckland Museum’s commitment to presenting world-class touring exhibitions, with March of the Triceratops set to be a major highlight,” says Victoria.
“As the only Australasian venue on the exhibition’s international tour, Auckland Museum will give visitors the opportunity to come face-to-face with the world’s only known Triceratops herd, alongside other international exhibitions arriving in Tāmaki Makaurau,” she says.
Due to strong public interest, Sharks, created by the Australian Museum, has been extended until Monday, June 1, 2026. The exhibition explores shark diversity and evolution, their significance within First Nations and Pasifika knowledge systems, and current global research into shark conservation.
Wildlife Photographer of the Year 61 opens on Saturday, June 27, 2026 and runs until Sunday, August 23, 2026. On loan from the Natural History Museum, London, the exhibition presents images from the international wildlife photography competition, now in its 61st year.
In September 2026, March of the Triceratops will open, showcasing the world’s only known Triceratops herd, including five recently excavated fossils. The exhibition includes life-size models, animatronics and augmented reality experiences exploring the biology and behaviour of Triceratops.
Opening in June 2027, Ming: The Golden Empire will present objects from the Nanjing Museum exploring social change, artistic achievement and cultural life during China’s Ming dynasty from 1368 to 1644.
