Cruise industry executive Katrina McAlpine has been appointed managing director, Australia and New Zealand, for the MSC Group’s Cruise Division, overseeing both MSC Cruises and luxury brand Explora Journeys across the region.
Based in Sydney, Katrina will lead the companies’ strategic growth in two of their key global markets, reporting jointly to António Paradiso, Cruise Division vice-president international sales and managing director UK and Ireland for MSC Cruises, and Francesco Iannaccone, global head of commercial strategy and sales operations for Explora Journeys.
António says Katrina brought strong regional experience that would support the continued expansion of the brands.
“She brings with her a wealth of experience and will play a key role in strengthening our brands in Australia and New Zealand. This appointment reinforces our growing presence in the region and our determination to deliver on the commitments we’ve made to these important markets,” he says.
Katrina has held senior commercial leadership roles across both luxury and premium cruise sectors, including positions with Cunard and Imagine Cruising, where she led regional commercial strategies aimed at driving business growth and performance.
MSC Cruises, the world’s third-largest cruise line and European market leader with an expanding footprint in North America, and Explora Journeys, the group’s luxury ocean travel brand, both identify Australia and New Zealand as priority growth markets.
The appointment signals the group’s intention to deepen its investment and regional presence across Australasia as cruise demand continues to build.
Katrina will formally begin her role on Monday, January 12, 2026.
