Holiday Parks NZ has donated $5500 to the Nelson–Tasman Mayoral Relief Fund, with contributions raised by park members to support communities affected by severe weather events on June 26–27 and July 11, 2025. The storms caused significant damage across the region, including to at least three holiday parks.
Holiday Parks NZ chief executive Emily Byrne says the donation reflects the sector’s strong community ties.
“The parks are already important within their communities and actions like this remind us of what leadership looks like when it’s rooted in care.”
The donation is already supporting recovery efforts, including the provision of food and accommodation for residents displaced by flooding and landslips.
The initiative began with a contribution from long-time industry champion Erna Spijkerbosch, whose commitment to community wellbeing continues to motivate others in the sector. At the Holiday Parks NZ Annual Conference & Expo, held in Whakatū Nelson from July 21–23, Erna encouraged attendees to contribute to the region’s recovery, with further donations collected during the conference quiz night.
The funding has supported a range of activities, including clearing silt, debris and gravel from properties, reinstating fences, drains and culverts, and helping to replace clothing, bedding, appliances and vehicles damaged by flood waters or landslips.
Holiday Parks NZ says it stands with the Nelson–Tasman region and acknowledges the resilience shown by local communities and operators.
