LyLo Queenstown has launched what it believes is New Zealand’s first self-pour cocktail and beer wall, giving guests more control over how they enjoy drinks at the property’s rooftop bar.
The new system allows travellers to tap their card, pour their choice of craft beers, ciders, or signature cocktails, and take in views of Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables.
LyLo managing director Tim Alpe says the technology builds on the company’s focus on innovation.
“Innovation is in our DNA. We’re always looking for ways to make a difference and redefine what a stay at LyLo looks like. Our new rooftop kitchen leans into this alongside what we believe is New Zealand’s first accommodation self-pour wall,” Tim says.
“Forget the traditional bar experience, this is the next generation of drinking — social, interactive and seriously good fun. We have been trialling the technology at LyLo Brisbane, and our customers are raving about the experience. Perfect for sundowners with new friends, guests can mix, match and taste to their heart’s content without waiting in line, and the best part is they can try before they buy.”
LyLo Queenstown general manager Hannah Mole says the wall features drinks popular with guests, including Heineken Silver, Export Gold, Monteith’s Golden Light, Monteith’s Apple Cider, Sled Dog Session Hazy and Canyon Brewery’s espresso martini.
“We’re all about helping travellers make their LyLo experience uniquely their own, and the self-pour wall is a great talking point that’s super interactive,” Hannah says. “Locals have been buzzing to try it, and guests can enjoy it while cooking in the communal kitchen, taking part in a cooking class, or relaxing after a day of adventure.”
The system requires guests to show ID to the bar manager before loading their card. When the balance runs low, they can top up. Built-in sobriety limits and oversight by an LCQ-certified bar manager support responsible use.
LyLo says the technology aligns with its sustainability goals. The wall replaces glass bottles with reusable kegs and precision-pour technology, reducing waste, overpouring and product loss. Each pour is tracked to ensure high keg yield, and the system uses energy-efficient cooling and dispensing to reduce foam and waste.
The Rooftop offers activities including trivia nights, bingo, Paint & Sip sessions, board games and free WiFi. The renovated communal kitchen and bar, designed by Jonathan Goss of Ellegard Goss, includes snack and frozen-meal vending options and non-alcoholic drinks.
Tim says the company plans to roll out the concept to other LyLo properties in New Zealand and Australia.
