Intrepid Travel has opened a new office in central Auckland, strengthening its long-term investment in New Zealand as interest in responsible, small-group travel continues to rise.
Located in the Historic Market Buildings at 39 Market Place, the new regional hub will support the company’s operations and partnerships across Aotearoa.
The opening follows Intrepid’s recent acquisitions of Haka Tours and ANZ Nature Tours, expanding the company’s presence from inbound travel to also include outbound operations linking New Zealand travellers to more than 900 trips worldwide.
Intrepid Travel chief executive James Thornton says the Auckland office reflects the company’s commitment to investing locally.
“New Zealand is one of Intrepid’s most important destinations — it’s a place where sustainability, community and connection to nature are deeply ingrained. Our new Auckland office is a reflection of our ongoing commitment to investing locally and growing our presence in the region,” James says.
Intrepid Travel New Zealand general manager Simon Mckearney says the space brings the team and partners together in one location.
“This new space brings together our local team and partners under one roof, giving us a strong base to continue delivering world-class experiences in Aotearoa and across the globe. It’s great to have an office that matches the energy and ambition of our people here,” Simon says.
The opening event welcomed staff and industry representatives and recognised Intrepid’s contribution to New Zealand’s visitor economy and leadership in responsible tourism.
In New Zealand, The Intrepid Foundation continues its partnership with Forest & Bird, supporting conservation work and encouraging travellers to engage with nature and community initiatives.
Auckland Business Chamber chief executive Simon Bridges says Intrepid’s investment signals confidence in the region.
“Intrepid’s investment in a new Auckland office is a vote of confidence in our tourism and business landscape. It’s great to see continued global interest in building a strong presence here,” Simon says.
