Auckland Airport is set to build a temporary check-in pavilion beside the international terminal to keep passenger flows moving as major redevelopment work gets underway.
The new facility, known as Check-in Zone T, will sit between the Transport Hub and the existing terminal. It will provide additional capacity while the international departures hall undergoes a complete upgrade from 2026 to 2029 as part of the airport’s wider transformation programme.
Auckland Airport chief operations officer Chloe Surridge says the pavilion was essential to maintaining smooth operations during the construction period.
“Around 14,000 international travellers check in and depart from Auckland Airport each day. As we progressively rebuild the departures hall, we need flexible capacity to keep the system running efficiently,” she says.
“The pavilion is a proven solution used by airports globally. It allows us to continue serving passengers safely and comfortably while reshaping the check-in experience to be simpler and more self-service focused.”
The 55-metre-long, 20-metre-wide structure will include 28 check-in counters and the ability to process passengers for up to four wide-body aircraft simultaneously. Covered walkways will connect travellers directly to the international terminal.
The check-in pavilion will operate throughout the staged construction period, supporting Auckland Airport’s longer-term plan to integrate domestic and international travel into a single, modern terminal.
