A new ticketless parking system has been introduced at Wellington Airport, making parking easier for travellers and eliminating around three million paper tickets each year.
Instead of taking a ticket at entry gates, cameras now automatically record vehicle licence plates. Travellers can pay at pay machines by entering their licence plate number before exiting, or at the exit barrier using credit card or payWave.
Wellington Airport commercial general manager Richard Dalby says the new system is a win for both travellers and the environment.
“It’s going to be easier for the public with no need to hang onto a paper ticket, and a lot better for the environment with millions of tickets no longer printed,” Richard says.
“You can also pay in advance when making an online booking. We always recommend this to get the best deals.”
Drivers are asked to approach the barrier slowly when entering or exiting and to stop in line with the parking column.
Staff are available to assist via the intercom at the barriers.
More information, including an 80s throwback video explaining the change, is available at www.wellingtonairport.co.nz/ticketless.
