Intrepid Travel has announced 28 new active trips for 2026, featuring hiking, cycling, kayaking and multi-adventure itineraries across six continents.
The new collection includes five multi-active trips, 21 walking and trekking itineraries and two cycling tours, bringing Intrepid’s total active portfolio to 148 trips. Each combines physical activity with cultural immersion, guided by local leaders in small-group settings.
Among the highlights are the five-day Walk New Zealand’s Tongariro Crossing, the 10-day Kyrgyzstan: Trekking the Tien Shan Trails, and the seven-day Croatia and Montenegro: Hike, Bike & Raft adventure.
The Tongariro Crossing itinerary takes travellers through Tongariro National Park, visiting a local marae and relaxing in hot tubs at the foothills of Mt Ruapehu. The Kyrgyzstan trek follows nomadic trails through the Tien Shan Mountains, while the Adriatic itinerary includes rafting the Tara River Canyon and walking Dubrovnik’s historic city walls.
The launch comes amid growing demand for active and nature-based travel. Intrepid reports a nine per cent year-on-year increase in bookings across its active range, including a 23 per cent rise in multi-active itineraries. Global trends in cycling and hiking tourism are also forecast to grow steadily over the next decade.
Intrepid Travel general manager of experiences Erica Kritikides says the expansion reflects travellers’ increasing interest in health and wellbeing.
“Intrepid’s style of travel has always resonated with people seeking active adventure,” says Erica. “For many travellers, the best way to unwind is by moving. These trips allow travellers to explore and reconnect with nature while sharing experiences with like-minded people.”
Intrepid’s active trips are rated from three to five on the company’s five-level physical activity scale, catering to travellers with a moderate to high fitness level.
Other highlights include cycling Australia’s Munda Biddi Trail, trekking Peru’s Salkantay Trail to Machu Picchu, and premium walking trips in Nepal’s Annapurna region and Italy’s Dolomites.
The new trips are now available to book, with departures from February 2025.
