Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre has been named Oceania’s Leading Meetings and Conference Centre in the 2025 World Travel Awards.
Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards celebrate excellence across all sectors of the international travel and tourism industry. Te Pae Christchurch was recognised at the Asia and Oceania Gala Ceremony, held at the InterContinental Grand Stanford in Hong Kong on Monday, October 13.
Te Pae Christchurch was voted by travel industry professionals, media and the public ahead of regional finalists including the International Convention Centre Sydney, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Cairns Convention Centre and Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. Christchurch Airport and the George Hotel were also recognised as Canterbury finalists in this year’s awards.
Te Pae Christchurch general manager Ross Steele says the award is an honour and a reflection of the venue’s commitment to excellence.
“To have our venue acknowledged on the world stage is a moment of immense pride and a true testament to the dedication, passion and excellence our team has poured into every event since we opened our doors just three and a half years ago,” says Ross.
Ross says the team was particularly pleased to be recognised among such internationally respected convention centres.
“It truly is extraordinary to be held in such esteemed company. The work of the other finalists in our category has inspired and influenced us, and we’re extremely proud to stand alongside them.”
He says the award also reflects the wider community’s support.
“This recognition is not just for us – it’s for Christchurch, New Zealand. Our venue was born from a bold vision of regeneration, proudly Crown-owned and built to breathe new life into this remarkable city. Today, that vision stands tall, not only as a beacon of architectural and operational excellence, but as a thriving hub for world-class experiences.”
Ross also paid tribute to the team’s dedication and hard work. “Their commitment and relentless pursuit of excellence made this global recognition possible.”
Te Pae Christchurch has also been named a World nominee in the 2025 World Travel Awards – the highest category in the programme. Voting runs from Monday, October 6 to Sunday, October 26, with winners announced on Saturday, December 6.
