The Sommeliers at Cellar Door Wine Bar in the Christchurch Arts Centre have been celebrating, after being named Australasia’s “Best Wine Bar” in UK magazine World Of Fine Wine’s annual World’s Best Wine List Awards, making the finals for the global gong.
For the first time, a New Zealand entry will be representing Australasia at the World’s Best Wine List Awards, held at The Savoy in London in September.
“We’ve been doing our thing here for five years now, and received a bit of attention locally for our wine tasting flights, so it’s great to get this international recognition” says Cellar Door director Tim Ogle.
“To be judged the best in their respective continent in one of these categories is a huge achievement for any establishment, and each of the winners has every right to be extremely proud of the prestigious title they have won,” says World’s Best Wine Lists Awards chairman and editor of The World of Fine Wine Neil Beckett.
This tops a successful awards season for the Christchurch wine bar, which last month was again named on the “Best Of” list at New York’s Wine Spectator Magazine Awards of Excellence for the second year in a row, and in April gained a Silver Star for “Best Wine By-The-Glass List” from European publication Star Wine List.
Last year Cellar Door won the Supreme Award at the Canterbury Restaurant Association Awards for the second time, and in 2020 was named in the top 50 Wine Experiences in the World by Gourmet Traveller Magazine.
Cellar Door is located in the South Quad of the Christchurch Arts Centre te Matatiki Toi Ora, and is open from 12-late 7 days.
