Leading New Zealand tourism operator Explore Group has just welcomed new vessel Tokerau to their expanding fleet to operate under the Fullers Bay of Islands brand.
The vessel was officially launched on March 17 with a blessing on Paihia Wharf attended by local iwi, partners, operators and industry.
The 24m power cat, has capacity for almost 300 passengers, and has been thoughtfully designed and purpose built for local conditions and wildlife viewing. Fitted with comfortable interiors with ample seating, large picture windows and modern amenities, as well as large outdoor viewing decks the vessel will deliver a premium cruise experience.
Designed by Incat Crowther and built by Aluminium Marine, the new vessel builds on the design of Explore Group’s expanding fleet of premium tourism catamarans including recent additions Tuhi-rapa and Island Explorer operating in Auckland.
Tokerau meaning – North – reflects the company’s focus on the region as a visitor destination.
“We believe there is huge potential to grow and enhance the Bay of Islands as a visitor destination and this is just the next step in our ongoing investment in the region,” says Explore Group managing director William Goodfellow.
“We want to showcase everything the Bay of Islands and Northland has to offer and the new vessel will allow us to continue to deliver world class tourism experiences for visitors to the region.”
Explore Group purchased the iconic Fullers Bay of Islands brand in July 2021 and since then has operated their signature tours and cruises including the original Cream Trip, Hole in the Rock Dolphin cruise and Cape Reinga & Ninety Mile Beach tour.
