Recently, Working In hosted a webinar detailing immigration changes, announced by government, to the AEWV (Accredited Employer Work Visa)
Here is some of the key changes affected that rolled out March 10.
Median wage requirements
One of the biggest shifts outlined is the removal of the median wage requirement, meaning employers will now pay migrant workers according to the New Zealand market rate instead. This change aims to align wages with job ads and industry standards.
Work experience
Additionally, the work experience requirement for lower-skilled migrants has been relaxed to just two years, making it easier for employers to hire qualified candidates. The visa duration for Level 4-5 roles will extend from two to three years, reducing administrative burdens.
Job checks
Employers will still need to engage with Work and Income (WINZ) for job checks, though upfront evidence is no longer required. As recruitment becomes faster, now is the time for businesses to strategise on hiring and retention to navigate these new regulations effectively.
