AJ Hackett Taupō Bungy & Swing is an adventure tourism destination located in Taupō. Home to New Zealand’s highest water touch bungy jump at 47 meters above the Waikato River, they offer thrilling experiences that challenge individuals to confront their fears and push their limits.
Since its acquisition by AJ Hackett Bungy NZ in 2019, they have continued to maintain a legacy of safety and innovation, creating unforgettable experiences for visitors worldwide.
History
Taupō Bungy, now rebranded as AJ Hackett Taupō Bungy & Swing, opened its doors in 1991 as New Zealand’s highest water-touch bungy jump and now offers two exhilarating adventure activities, including the bungy jump and swing. The company has achieved numerous achievements for its safety record and customer satisfaction, cementing their place as leaders in adventure tourism.
Mission and vision
AJ Hackett Bungy NZ’s goal is to inspire people to awesomeness – challenging them to do things they never thought they could through personal challenges while maintaining a solid commitment to safety. They aspire to be the forefront of adventure tourism excellence, continually expanding their products and services while promoting strength within the community.
Products and services
In addition to bungy jumping, they offer a variety of adventure experiences, including the Auckland Bridge Climb, Skywalk, and unique Catapult, catering to adventure seekers and families.
Commitment to sustainability
Also dedicated to environmental responsibility nationwide, they have a goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030. AJ Hackett Bungy NZ has kickstarted that goal with the introduction of replacing some of their fleet with four electric vehicles, trapping pests and developing a native tree nursery for planting in Taupō.
Community impact and strength
Through that same power of personal challenges, they work with a variety of community partners, delivering initiatives like the Brave Project.
With the Brave Project, we aim to develop resilience in students – following the completion of a unit standard that looks at what causes fear, the physical effects and strategies to overcome it, students are offered a bungy jump to put it all into practice,” says Taupō sales manager Sonya Warne.
This initiative, along with the RISER Foundation and the Thrash More projects, illustrates AJ Hackett Bungy NZ’s dedication to empowering young people through personal challenges and community support.
But, Taupō Bungy & Swing is not just about adrenaline; it’s about nurturing a culture of strength and achievement.
“We feel that when people go out to do a bungy jump, they’re facing their fears and taking on a massive challenge – and learning how to ‘Live More, Fear Less’ in the process,” says Sonya.
