Disembarking this December? You’ll find a festive new treat in Air New Zealand lolly baskets around the world this holiday season.
A special edition Air New Zealand red and white striped candy cane lolly will be spreading Christmas cheer to the thousands of customers flying with the airline this holiday season.
The new candy cane flavoured confectionary will be mixed amongst the classic red and green lollies for the month of December for a truly festive feel.
Air New Zealand general manager customer experience Kylie McGillivray-Brown says the striped sweet will bring a merry morsel to flights.
“December is an exciting time in the air. We’re connecting millions of customers with friends and whānau for the holiday season and there’s always a buzz onboard. We wanted to celebrate that festive feeling with a sweet holiday surprise for our customers.
“We know the Air New Zealand lolly is a much-loved treat, so it was time to bring a touch of Christmas magic to the popular onboard tradition. The new flavour tastes just like a Christmas candy cane, bringing some Christmas magic to fliers. We’ve been serving the iconic hard-boiled sweets for over half a century, and this is only the second time we have released a limited-edition flavour.
“Customers can enjoy the candy cane flavour from December 1 until they’ve all been devoured! It’s one way we’re saying ‘Meri Kirihimete’ to our passengers as they travel around the world this Christmas season.”
The candy cane lolly is just one treat onboard this December. More festive delights will be delivered on domestic flights over the holiday season too including exclusive pretzel and candy cane chocolate bark, and a selection of ‘top shelf’ wines during Koru Hour, and other festive moments onboard. There will be plenty of opportunities to get into the Christmas spirit with Air New Zealand.
Sweet facts about the Air New Zealand lolly:
- The Air New Zealand lolly comes in five classic flavours: Strawberry, Peppermint, Lime, Lemon, and Orange
- Lollies were made for flying; sucking one activates the muscle that opens your eustachian tubes, relieving pressure in your ears at high altitude.
- The first special edition lolly came out in 2015 and was the popular ‘All Black’ blackcurrant flavour. It still pops up every now and again as a surprise for customers onboard.
