Tātaki Auckland Unlimited’s ongoing investment in major concerts and music tours is delivering substantial economic benefits for Auckland, with the upcoming Coldplay and Pearl Jam shows projected to drive significant tourism and local spending.
This year, three Coldplay concerts alone are expected to bring over 130,000 fans to Auckland’s Eden Park, generating an estimated 86,000 visitor nights and an additional $20 million in regional visitor spending, with over 40% of attendees coming from outside the area.
Tātaki Auckland Unlimited head of major events Michelle Hooper says “Our investment in these concerts reflects our commitment to boosting Auckland’s tourism and entertainment profile.”
“Events like these not only bring iconic performers to our city but also enhance the broader appeal of Auckland for visitors.” she says.
Hotel occupancy in Auckland is also expected to peak at 84% during the concert period, with November 15 — the second Coldplay show — drawing in record numbers of visitors. Pearl Jam’s two sold-out shows as part of the Dark Matter World Tour November 8 and 10 at Go Media Stadium add to the lineup, promising an unforgettable week of live entertainment for Auckland.
Over the past decade, Tātaki Auckland Unlimited has backed events featuring major artists and bands, including The Rolling Stones, U2, Adele, and P!NK. These events have consistently drawn large visitor numbers and contributed millions in GDP, helping to establish Auckland as a top destination for major music tours.
