Global travellers have rated Perth, Australia, as the best city in the world to visit, and Portugal as the most preferred country, according to exclusive data from one of the world’s largest travel agencies, Flight Centre.
Based on more than 170,000 customer responses from five of Flight Centre’s markets over the past year (Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and the UK), the data compared the likelihood of Flight Centre customers to recommend their recent travel destinations as great places to visit.
When it came to cities, Perth’s satisfaction rating of 96 per cent was closely followed by Brisbane at 94 per cent and Queenstown also at 94 per cent.
In terms of New Zealand cities, Christchurch also featured in the top 10, coming in as the fifth most recommended destination with a ranking of 92 per cent.
New Zealand was rated fourteenth as the most recommended country.
In terms of New Zealander’s travel preferences, Kiwis rated the Cook Islands as the country they’re most likely to recommend (95 percent ranking), and Gold Coast as their preferred city (96 percent).
Flight Centre New Zealand general manager Heidi Walker said both locations have long been top booked destinations for its New Zealand customers.
“The Gold Coast is a great close-to-home holiday destination for a range of age groups, and plenty of Kiwis also have family living there which often brings them back to that part of the world regularly.
“The Cook Islands can be seen as an easy country for Kiwis to travel to with a short flight time and the same currency as us.
“With the Cook Islands’ beautiful beaches and friendly locals, it’s no wonder Kiwis rank it
so highly.”
The findings show a mix of travel preferences across the travel agency’s extensive network of destinations.
“There were some surprising results that go to show it’s not always the traditionally popular
destinations that have something special to offer travellers.”
