Have any weekend getaways planned? Well, why not book a trip to Kaikōura?
New data from Booking.com reveals it’s the top search for King’s Birthday weekend.
The data revealed travelers are planning on having a ‘whale’ of a time in Kaikōura over the long weekend, with the town seeing a 50 per cent increase in searches for the destination over the same period last year.
Kaikōura, famous for its stunning coastal landscapes and marine life, is becoming a prime choice for Kiwis seeking a long weekend escape. The winter months, particularly June and July, are the best times to spot humpback whales in the region.
Booking.com offers several attractions to help travelers make the most of their trip, including the One-hour Flight and Whale Watching Experience, providing an up-close encounter with these gentle giants.
This rise in interest isn’t a one off though.
While Queenstown, Auckland, Rotorua, Christchurch, and Wellington remain the top searched destinations for King’s Birthday weekend, Kaikōura stands out as the most notable trend.
The town’s search popularity has increased by 50 per cent compared to the same time last year, surpassing Auckland, Wānaka, and Paihia, which have all seen a 30 per cent rise in searches. Mount Maunganui rounds out the top five with a 25 per cent increase.
As Kiwis plan their winter getaways, Kaikōura’s unique blend of adventure and natural beauty makes it a standout destination, promising unforgettable experiences for all who visit.
