In an innovative push to transform the tourism landscape, Tourism New Zealand is set to launch a series of stakeholder engagement hui’s throughout the motu this coming May.
These gatherings are part of an annual tradition aimed at fostering dialogue and collaboration among tourism industry leaders and stakeholders. This year’s focus is particularly timely: shifting the tourist influx from peak seasons to a more sustainable, year-round flow.
Each event promises a deep dive into Tourism New Zealand’s new four-year strategy and the Fiscal Year 2025 plan. The strategic turn towards promoting off-peak travel is designed not only to enhance the visitor experience but also to mitigate the environmental impact of peak-season tourism, which has been a growing concern among environmental advocates and industry stakeholders alike.
The series kicks off in the adventure capital of Tāhuna Queenstown, at the QT Queenstown Friday May 24 from 9am to 12.30pm.
It then travels north to Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, where it will be hosted at the Auckland War Memorial Museum Monday, May 27 Each location will feature insights from the respective Regional Tourism Organisation, providing attendees with a tailored regional perspective alongside the broader national strategy.
In Ōtautahi Christchurch, participants will convene at the Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre, Tuesday, May 28, to continue these crucial conversations. The series concludes with a dual offering in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington at the Public Trust Hall, Wednesday, May 29.
This final hui offers a unique virtual participation option, allowing groups from across New Zealand and beyond to join the discussions online, broadening the reach and inclusivity of the event.
Each session includes a robust Q+A segment with a panel of tourism experts. This interactive format is designed not just to inform but also to spark dialogue on how these strategies can be integrated and adapted within local business frameworks.
For many local operators, these insights could be transformative, offering new ways to leverage national strategies at a local level.
Registration for the series opened Monday, April 22.
Those interested in attending can choose to join in person at any of the listed locations or virtually for the Wellington event. This flexibility ensures that no matter where one is based, there is an opportunity to be part of these key discussions. Register for Tourism New Zealand events here.
