Rotorua has been recognised as one of the Top 10 Global Trending Destinations for 2024 by Booking.com.
The announcement follows Rotorua’s earlier recognition by Forbes Magazine as one of the Top 50 places to visit in 2023.
Haydn Marriner, brand & marketing manager at RotoruaNZ says “RotoruaNZ is thrilled by the international recognition that our destination has received as one of the top 10 trending places in the world for 2024 by Booking.com. This amazing accolade adds to the international recognition for Rotorua.” he says.
Among the wins, Rotorua Canopy Tours was named the world’s best nature tour by TripAdvisor, and Polynesian Spa secured three awards at the World Luxury Spa Awards 2023. Domestically, Te Pa Tu won the New Zealand Tourism Award for Resilience and Innovation 2023 and The Māori Tourism Award, while Wai Ariki Hot Springs and Spa received the respected Purple Pin at the Best Designers Awards 2023.
Haydn says these awards reflect the positivity and drive of Rotorua’s operators, contributing significantly to the region’s tourism success, and highlights the continuous efforts of the local community since the 1830s, which have established Rotorua as New Zealand’s only legacy destination. Haydn says these recognitions position Rotorua for a successful summer, aligning perfectly with their current visitation campaign, #Bestsummerever.
“Rotorua invites all of New Zealand to come and experience the best attractions, activities, and people for the best summer ever. The forward-looking data gives us great optimism that Rotorua is on the rise, and we are proud of the work of our local people who have all contributed to this success and for being positive about our place and our future.” says Haydn.
Note: These top 10 trending destinations, as identified by Booking.com, are based on a survey of over 27,000 respondents from 33 countries, making this recognition globally significant. This is the first time in many years that a New Zealand destination has been featured in this list, marking a milestone for Rotorua and New Zealand tourism.
