InterContinental Auckland appoints new general manager

IHG Hotels and Resorts is pleased to announce the appointment of Ryan South as general manager of the group’s newest luxury New Zealand hotel, InterContinental Auckland, which is set to open in late 2023.

Ryan will lead the group’s second InterContinental hotel in New Zealand, which will enjoy an unrivalled location and halo address on 1 Queen Street on Auckland’s waterfront, completing the $1 billion Commercial Bay lifestyle district, home to the city’s newest high-end office, retail, social and dining destination.

An accomplished hotel executive with more than 22 years’ experience with IHG Hotels and Resorts across Australia, Indonesia and New Zealand, and most recently as general manager of Crowne Plaza Terrigal Pacific, Ryan is pleased to announce his return to New Zealand to lead the group’s latest luxury hotel development in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland.

“It’s exciting to be back in Auckland and take the helm of this landmark luxury hotel and give New Zealanders and international visitors to the City of Sails a taste of the InterContinental Life.

“Over the coming months I will be working with our development partners, Precinct Properties, to realise our shared vision for InterContinental Auckland, while recruiting and leading the team who will welcome guests to this prestigious development which is set to become one of Auckland’s most iconic waterfront hotels and a destination in its own right in the heart of the vibrant Commercial Bay precinct,” Ryan says.

InterContinental Auckland will present 139 luxurious guest rooms and suites, with most featuring water views, including Club rooms with access to the brand’s signature Club InterContinental lounge for those seeking exclusivity. The hotel will also feature a signature restaurant and gymnasium. The precinct will offer additional elevated experiences available for guests, including meetings and event spaces as well as a rooftop bar on level 21 boasting panoramic views of the city and Waitematā Harbour.

Once open, the new Auckland address will complement InterContinental Wellington, and adds to IHG’s luxury credentials across the globe with 211 open InterContinental Hotels & Resorts properties and more than 93 in the pipeline.
