Paul will bring extensive experience to First Table, having served as COO and current Chair of Shuttlerock, a New Zealand start-up that grew into an international tech success story, with 300 staff and offices in seven countries.
In addition, Paul has served on the boards of Air New Zealand, Tourism New Zealand, and Ngai Tahu Tourism, gaining valuable experience across the tourism and hospitality sector.
Paul is currently serving as the deputy Chair of ChristchurchNZ, the Chairman of Entrada Travel Group and the Chairman of Black Cat Cruises.
Paul says he is excited about joining First Table. “I really admire the tenacity and resilience of startup founders and Mat and his team have done a great job building the business into what it is today.
“They discovered a problem that was real and have delivered a solution for both diners and restaurants.
“The potential from here is to build the business into a large and influential platform not only in New Zealand, but also in key overseas markets, connecting diners with restaurants every day. I’m delighted to be on this journey with First Table, and look forward to helping the team achieve their goals.”
CEO and founder of First Table Mat Weir is also delighted about the appointment.
“We are thrilled to have someone of Paul’s calibre and experience joining us. His governance, marketing and international scaling experience of New Zealand tech will be invaluable as we continue our growth journey, expand into new markets and continue to develop hospitality technology solutions to drive the business forward.”
The announcement comes as First Table’s first capital raise opened on private equity marketplace Snowball Effect. The business is targeting a raise of $1.5m – $4m in capital. First Table launched two new products in February this year, Frequent Foodies, their national restaurant loyalty program as well as Regular Table, the platform’s new real-time regular restaurant bookings product.
