QT Hotels & Resorts are celebrating two new accolades from Hospitality New Zealand’s prestigious Hospitality Awards for Excellence 2022, held in Auckland last night.
QT Wellington was named ‘Best Luxury Accommodation’, a category that celebrates excellence across all accommodation offerings. The hotel shows its unique positioning in the luxury market and continues to provide experience-driven stays to be named the leader in this category.
The 180-room hotel is located minutes from the entertainment district, and directly across from the national museum, Te Papa Tongarewa. Capturing the heart of New Zealand’s creative capital, guests can immerse themselves in a fascinating fusion of art and luxury, even staying in one of 25 Gallery 4 Rooms, each with bespoke artwork created by a New Zealand artist.
QT Wellington is where those in the know come for a taste of the avant-garde while indulging in their most creative selves, and speaking of indulging; QT Wellington is home to renowned restaurants, Hippopotamus and Hot Sauce.
QT Wellington’s executive chef Jiwon Do was also honoured with the title of 2022 Chef of the Year.
It is Jiwon’s passion for what he does, his flair for creativity, his ethos to support local, and his craft to tell stories through every dish, that has led to this achievement. Under the direction of Chef Do since 2018, Hippopotamus Restaurant and Cocktail Bar has become an award-winning signature restaurant at QT Wellington. He brings his own unique flair to the French-inspired fine dining restaurant, renowned for both its high tea and the standout chef’s degustation menu.
Chef Do has a story behind every dish and creates menus that take guests on a journey, with a focus on locally grown produce and sustainable, ethically sourced ingredients, woven expertly into unique and experimental flavour combinations. Hippopotamus recently retained its Two Hat status in the Cuisine Good Food Awards.
“It’s fantastic to see QT Wellington acknowledged and have the opportunity to celebrate our team’s dedication towards unique and unforgettable guest experiences,” says QT Wellington general manager Chris Greening .
“A huge congratulations to Chef Do for the magic he creates in Hippopotamus and Hot Sauce; Chef of the Year is a well-deserved award.”
Sister hotels QT Auckland and QT Queenstown were both named as finalists in the ‘Best Luxury Hotel’ category, while QT Auckland’s Esther restaurant was a finalist for ‘Best New/Redeveloped Business Food and Beverage’.
“I am proud of the QT Wellington team for their dedication to excellence and the entire QT Hotels & Resorts team who make each hotel shine and continue to work exceptionally hard to bring the QT brand to life,” says EVENT Hotels and Resorts general manager for New Zealand operations, Simon White.
