Round 6 of TIF allocated out $15million

The successful recipients from Round 6 of the Government's Tourism Infrastructure Fund have been announced.

The TIF supports local government to address tourism infrastructure needs, and this round it will invest more than $15 million into 62 projects across 34 Councils and community organisations around the country.

For the first time, TIF criteria considered infrastructure to support the delivery and management of Matariki events and seven Matariki linked projects have been awarded a share of $2.29 million in funding.

This round of funding will provide support for projects that include the building of star gazing platforms, new carparks, public toilets, walking tracks and providing support infrastructure for events like Matariki on the Marae.

Since 2017, the TIF has supported more than 200 projects totalling more than $90 million, which have improved the quality of tourism infrastructure for residents and visitors alike.

 

Below is a list of recipients and what the money has been allocated for:

 

Ashburton District Council

$277,000 for redevelopment of Rakaia Gorge toilets and Observation Deck

Central Hawkes Bay District Council

$372,400 for Rongomaraeroa Marae wastewater system connection

$107,900 for upgrades to Pourerere Beach Reserve carparking and beach access, water supply, viewing platform and signage

$63,507 for a dump station at Takapau

$194,250 for enhancements to toilets and signage at Otaia/Lindsay Bush Reserve carpark

 

Central Otago District Council

$296,600 for additional toilet facilities for Ranfurly and Cromwell

Chatham Islands Council

$635,858 for enhancements and health and safety upgrades to a number of tourist locations: Stone Cottage, Tame Horomona statue site, Blind Jim’s, Owenga Lookout, Northern Volcanic Lookout,Thomas Mohi Tuuta Scenic Reserve Walk, and Port Hutt Transit of Venus Observatory

 

Christchurch City Council

$298,250 for redevelopment of the Naval Point toilets facilities

 

Coromandel Independent Living Trust

$192,027 additional funding for public amenities block project

 

Far North District Council

$340,500 for enhancements to Kaikohe Freedom Camping site and dump station

$75,566 for 10 Smart Bins to high use locations across the Far North

$88,500 for upgrades to the Rangiputa trailer boat parking area

$259,500 for upgrades to the Waipapa Landing trailer boat parking area

 

Grey District Council

$181,500 for provision of amenities at Mitchell’s Shelter, Lake Brunner

 

Hamilton City Council

$749,549 for improvements to visitor safety infrastructure at Hamilton Gardens

 

Hauraki District Council

$148,408 for installation of public toilets at Patetonga

 

Hawkes Bay Regional Council

$400,000 for public toilets at star compass site at Waitangi Regional Park 

 

Hurunui District Council

$348,022 across eight projects to install KiwiCamp infrastructure in campgrounds throughout the district

 

Invercargill City Council

$981,380 for upgrades to Bluff Hill Motupōhue Precinct toilets and expansion of carparks and shared paths

 

Kaikōura District Council

$135,860 to construct additional toilet facility at the northern entrance to Kaikōura

 

Kaipara District Council

$112,860 for upgrade to Pahi public toilets and wastewater system

$87,500 for upgrade to carpark, drainage, lighting and installation of toilets at Rangiora Road Reserve

$213,500 for upgrade to Rangiora Road Boat Ramp Carpark

$124,000 for redevelopment of Poutu Carpark to provide safe access to the beach and wharf

 

Kapiti Coast District Council

$132,000 for installation of toilet and amenities at Waikanae River/Kapiti Cycle Route Pathway

$134,250 for installation of toilets and amenities at Chrystall’s Bend ≈åtaki River

$68,750 for installation of toilets and amenities at Hemi Matenga Reserve

$200,000 for installation of new public toilet at the Paraparaumu Transport Hub

 

Masterton District Council

$238,750 for toilets and bike stands on Lansdowne Trail and wetland viewing platform

 

Matakana Coast Trail Trust

$180,200 for carpark expansion and bike hub for Puhoi Pioneers Reserve

 

Napier City Council

$700,000 for visitor shelter and facilities at the Iron Pot Waka Hub

 

Te R≈´nanga o Moeraki

$113,000 for improvements to Takiroa and Maerewhenua Rock Art sites

 

National Wetland Trust of New Zealand

$52,500 for infrastructure supporting the Rotopiko Wetland Discovery Centre, improving trails and information

 

Nelson City Council

$203,475 for safety upgrade to Maitai shared path

 

Porirua City Council

$1,474,700 for extension of the carpark, toilets and pedestrian overbridge at Rangituhi Park

 

Rangitikei District Council

$56,000 for upgrade of toilet facility at Springvale Suspension Bridge rest area

 

Selwyn District Council

$288,950 for upgrade to public toilets at Waimakariri Gorge, Darfield Grain Shed Reserve, Little River Rail Trail, and carpark improvements at Joyce Reserve and Lake Lyndon Reserve.

 

Southland District Council

$397,500 for wayfinding pou and supporting infrastructure to be sited at tourist locations in the region conceptually aligning with the Matariki constellation

 

Tasman District Council

$170,017 for extension of a shared path in Pōhara to address safety concerns

$320,242 for development of a shared pathway at Kaiteriteri Estuary to address safety concerns

 

Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre, Christchurch

$678,526 for construction of public toilets to address capacity issues

 

Te Tākinga Marae Trust

$120,000 for construction of a Matariki viewing platform and waharoa, public toilet facility, interpretive signage

 

Waikato District Council

$965,000 for construction of shared walking/cycle path to provide safer access from Raglan township to the beach

 

Wairoa District Council

$106,080 for upgrade of Oraka public toilet facility

$106,080 for upgrade of N≈´haka public toilet

$498,000 for upgrade of Wairoa Camping ground toilet facilities

$66,000 for installation of Big Belly Bins

 

Waitaki District Council

$172,026 for upgrade of toilets at Awamoa

$168,665 for upgrade to carpark and toilets at Bushy Beach Scenic Reserve

 

Waitomo District Council

$85,000 for safety enhancements to Legends Walkway with the Te Kuiti Legends sculptures

$56,000 for safety upgrade to walking tracks across Brook Park to summit of Motakiora

$165,000 for improvements to Mokau toilets

 

Western Bay of Plenty District Council

$100,000 for Waihi Beach Matariki Stargazing Platforms which will help to address environmental protection issues and assist understanding of the cultural significance of the site

$60,000 for development of a carpark and public toilets at Poripori

$300,000 for upgrade to access road to TECT Park Events Area
