Waitangi Treaty Grounds is a finalist in the 2021 New Zealand Tourism Awards. A total of 23 businesses from all over the country are in the running for New Zealand’s most prestigious tourism awards, which have returned for 2021 to showcase and celebrate the industries best and brightest.
After a hiatus due to the pandemic in 2020, this year’s New Zealand Tourism Awards attracted a record 150 entries across 11 categories.
Waitangi Treaty Grounds is a finalist in the He Kai Kei Aku Ringa Māori Cultural Tourism category, previously won by the Grounds in 2016.
The Waitangi National Trust’s mission is to ‘illustrate the ongoing promise of Waitangi to the world’, with a focus on Waitangi’s historical and ongoing significance to Aotearoa New Zealand as an enduring symbol of nationhood.
"As custodians of such a significant place and kaupapa, the whole team is focused on providing a world class visitor experience that upholds the mana and wairua of Waitangi," says Waitangi National Trust Chairman Pita Tipene.

The winners will be announced at a special Awards dinner on September 1, in Kirikiriroa Hamilton following Tourism Summit Aotearoa.
