New Zealanders will once again be able to fly direct to Norfolk Island following Air Chathams’ announcement it will resume weekly return flights from Auckland on Thursdays commencing May 27, 2021.
Flight time will be around two hours 45 minutes departing Auckland 10.30am and arriving back around 4.45pm same day aboard one of Air Chathams’ fleet of Saab 340 turbo-prop aircraft which will offer a comfortable and spacious cabin for up to 36 passengers and include in-flight food and beverage service.
Norfolk Island, always a popular short-haul holiday escape for New Zealanders, has remained virus-free through the global pandemic and offers visitors everything needed to relax the mind, enjoy a special holiday and escape from crowds.
With safety and health on everyone's minds and, while the island continues to deliver outdoor, culinary, or historical experiences, there is even more of a focus now on wellbeing.‚ÄØ
‚ÄØThe island is an ideal spot for a retreat to relax and revive, reconnect to earth and oneself, enjoy nature and participate in adrenalin-rushing or soothing activity and adventure. One can traverse the island’s fascinating paths by car (including a Mini Moke), electric bike or push bike, catch sight of the rare Green Parrot, unwind with a beachside picnic platter or enjoy wine tasting snorkelling, kayaking, surfing, golf on a world-heritage course.
Air Chathams chief operating officer Duane Emeny says the resumption of flights is a positive step forward for the industry and the airline.
“We had really only just settled into our scheduled flights to Norfolk when the pandemic hit causing us to cease flights in March last year. Kiwis in the past made up half of all visitors to Norfolk Island and it is our hope that we can provide the reliable, safe and regular service to draw that market back. We’re resuming with flights starting from just $239 plus applicable international departure taxes," says Duane.
"Similar to our home on the Chatham Islands, Norfolk Island has remained Covid free throughout the pandemic and will no doubt be in high demand once flights restart next month."
Air Chathams flights to Norfolk Island will again depart Auckland International Airport Terminal. Travellers are required to present passport and complete a Norfolk island Entry Pass which must be submitted 24 to 72 hours prior to departure for approval.
