Te Pae Christchurch has reinforced its commitment to showcasing Canterbury to the world, signing its first Canterbury-based food and beverage supplier.
Sherwood Estate Wines, located in Waipara, has been appointed as the supplier for Te Pae Christchurch’s classic wine package.
Te Pae Christchurch general manager Ross Steele says as a key piece of Christchurch’s regeneration infrastructure, the venue had a responsibility to showcase the best of the region to its clients.
“We acknowledge the role we have in supporting the growth and success of our city and our region, which is one of the reasons we have implemented a purchase local philosophy,” Ross says.
“To achieve our goals of positioning Christchurch as a world-class conference destination and providing economic value to our region, we need to partner with local suppliers who share our passion and vision.
“Sherwood Estate Wines is the perfect example of this, they not only have a world-class product, but also share our focus on quality and community.”
Te Pae Christchurch director of culinary services Darren Tait says the classic beverage package at Te Pae Christchurch would set the foundation for what the venue is all about.
“We want our centre, as much as possible, to showcase Canterbury to the world and having Sherwood Estate Wines on board as our first supplier is a great way to start,” says Darren.
Sherwood Estate Wines is one of the largest independent wineries in New Zealand. Based in Canterbury’s beautiful Waipara Valley, the family-owned winery produces an extensive portfolio of wines from grapes grown on its five vineyards.
Darren says the wines chosen for the classic wine package had to meet a number of strict criteria, across quality, commercial and environmental considerations.
Sherwood Estate Wines director Jill Sherwood says the company was absolutely thrilled that Te Pae Christchurch had selected the winery as the supplier for the classic wine package.
“I really think it’s great for the Waipara Valley wine region to have local wines showcased at what will be Christchurch’s premier events centre,” Jill says.
“It’s been a long time since Christchurch has had a venue of this nature to display our region to international and national guests. We are looking forward to working with the culinary team who have been so professional throughout the process, and we can’t wait for Te Pae Christchurch to open and bring events back to the region."
